Where emissions come from

Refining and upstream production account for more than two thirds of our operated footprint, so that is where most of our abatement capital goes.

Our approach

Reduce before we offset
Our targets are met by cutting emissions at source. Carbon credits are not counted towards them.

Report against recognised standards
We report with reference to IFRS S2 and the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, and have our emissions data independently assured.

Tie pay to progress
Emissions and safety measures make up 20 percent of the annual incentive for senior leaders.

A just transition
We retrain our people for new energy roles and work with communities where our operations change.
