Things to do near Teratak Pakis

Cameron Highlands is small enough that nothing on this list is far from us, but the roads are narrow and slow when busy. Our advice is to pick two or three things a day, start early to beat the traffic, and leave the night market for the evening. Distances below are by road from Teratak Pakis, and times assume no traffic.¹

Tea

BOH Sungei Palas is the one most people come for: a tea garden on the slopes above Kea Farm, with a visitor centre and cafe built in 2007 whose balcony hangs out over the tea rows. It is 8.7 km from us, about 15 minutes with a clear road, but the last part is a single narrow lane where cars take turns, so it backs up on busy days. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, and is closed on Mondays except in school and public holidays. Outside food and drink are not allowed in the cafe.^2,1,3

If you want more than the view, BOH runs short tours: a tea tasting and factory tour at 9 am (RM50 a person, about an hour, minimum two), and the same with a plantation walk at 11 am (RM100, about two hours, minimum four). Prices are plus tax. Book ahead with them.⁴

Coming up from Tapah, you pass two more. Cameron Valley's tea house, about 5 km up from Ringlet, looks straight down over the Bharat estate. BOH's older garden at Habu, near Ringlet, keeps the same hours as Sungei Palas. Tourism Pahang singles out BOH and Bharat as the estates with the best visitor facilities.^5,6,7

The Mossy Forest

The Mossy Forest eco-park near the top of Gunung Brinchang is a patch of cloud forest, damp and green with moss all year, with a boardwalk, a rest hut and a lookout tower. It reopened on 1 April 2026 after landslide damage, and the rules changed: private cars and walkers are no longer allowed up, and you go in the vehicle of a tour operator registered with the district forest office.^8,9,10

Gunung Brinchang itself is 2,032 m high and has the highest road in Peninsular Malaysia running to its summit. It is narrow and steep, so take it slowly or let a tour driver handle it.^7,12,13

Farms, flowers and markets

Kea Farm, 4.9 km from us, is the highest village in the highlands at 1,610 m and the busiest stretch of road. Its stalls sell produce, flowers and plants, and the area is known for pick-your-own strawberry farms and butterfly gardens. Big Red Strawberry Farm, on the edge of Brinchang, is 1.8 km from us.^14,15,16,1

Cameron Lavender Garden, on the main road north of Kea Farm, is 10.8 km from us. When TheSmartLocal wrote it up in July 2025 it was open 9 am to 6 pm daily, at RM20 for adults and RM10 for children; check the current price at the gate.^17,1

The night market at Golden Hills, 1.4 km from us, is the weekend pasar malam that moved out of Brinchang town. It was listed as open on Fridays and Saturdays, 3.30 pm to 11.30 pm, in July 2025. Go early in the evening, before the crowds and the cold.^3,17,15,1

Temple and museum

Sam Poh Temple, a large Buddhist temple on the hill above Brinchang, is 1.7 km from us. It was listed as open 8 am to 5 pm daily with free entry in July 2025. Dress modestly.^17,1

The Time Tunnel in Brinchang, 2.8 km away, is a memorabilia museum opened in 2007: more than 4,000 objects in eight galleries, including old photographs of the towns, a barber shop, a kopitiam and a room on Jim Thompson, who disappeared in the highlands in 1967. A good choice for a wet afternoon.^18,1

Waterfalls and forest walks

Parit Falls is a Pahang Forestry eco-park in the Ulu Bertam Forest Reserve, 2.8 km from us, with a cool, clear stream for paddling and picnics. Sungai Pauh eco-park, 1 km from Tanah Rata town, has a stream, picnic and camping spots and walks into the forest; entry there is RM3 for Malaysian adults and RM10 for non-citizen adults. Robinson Falls is on the edge of Tanah Rata.^{19,20,11,21,1}
